With the campaign for Bibo Bergeron’s feature animation A Monster in Paris in full swing and the official screening this Sunday we’re all hoping it does MONSTROUSLY well!
Even in an age of CG and Green Screen, movies depend upon the originality of the artist to create dynamic sequences, wonderful new worlds and iconic characters. Home grown talent and fellow Welshman Matt Jones has been working in the animation industry as a Story artist on some of the top CGI-animated feature films including last years blockbuster Arthur Christmas. Matt’s spontaneous and fluid style of illustration is evident in his beautifully drawn storyboards for A Monster in Paris, his ability to convey the essence of story line while capturing a character’s emotion to create action and humour seems effortless. Below: Storyboard examples from A Monster in Paris.
Matt’s currently working as a Story artist on Pete Docter’s (Director of Up and Monsters Inc.) ‘Mind’ project at PIXAR, to see more examples of his work visit: http://mattjonezanimation.blogspot.com
Remember folks, the starting point to all great feature films… a pencil.
